27 years ago today, Michael Jackson purchased the rights to a large collection of The Beatles works known as Northern Songs. Paul McCartney had a chance to buy them earlier with Yoko Ono, but she thought they could get a cheaper price. Partially on the advice of Paul McCartney to invest in music publishing, Michael Jackson purchased the songs for $47.5 million.
