No longer known as Jay-Z, Sean Carter has decided to drop his hyphen and go by Jay Z. From Billboard editor Joe Levy:
Breaking: Jay Z has dropped the hyphen from his name, according to his label. I am not kidding. (Wish I was.) Copy editors: take note.

All of iTunes has already been updated to reflect the change. So what happens to that poor little hyphen? We were able to speak to him about the situation:
The Strut: First question, how are you holding up today?
Hyphen: This is a day every hyphen hopes will never come. Me and Jay were together over 25 years, we always had our problems but I never dreamed this would really happen.
TS: How did the separation come about?
H: I knew something was up when he didn’t include me on Watch the Throne. He claimed it was just a mistake Kanye made. I got a call the other day from and old ellipsis I used to hang out with and she told me iTunes had dropped me from all of Jay’s songs. I immediately confronted him and that’s when he gave me the bad news.
TS: Did he give you any reason?
H: He said it was nothing personal and that he was on a ‘minimalist kick’, but I act up sometimes, and I think I know what the final straw was.
TS: What was it?
H: Well I was at a party a few months back and Beyoncé’s e-acute was hanging out and she’s a cute é if you know what I mean. Jay had warned me to stay away from her but I was drunk and hanging out with Ice-T’s hyphen who told me to talk to her. I ended up saying some things that were inappropriate and I know it got back to Jay.
TS: So what’s next for the most famous hyphen in America?
H: I just have to hustle and find a new gig. I would love to join up with a celebrity again. My greatest dream would be to get picked up by Oprah. I think O-prah would look amazing, and I’m used to certain levels of luxury. I’m also considering a tell all book, I’ve seen some things.
