Sub Pop records co-founder Bruce Pavitt traveled with Nirvana on their 1989 tour of Europe and is releasing a photo-filled book about his experience called Experiencing Nirvana: Grunge in Europe, 1989. The book finds Nirvana in a precarious position early in their career:
The dramatic eight days covered in this book, from November 27 through December 4, 1989, represented a turning point for Nirvana. In this brief period, the young band went from breaking up in Rome to winning over the influential British music press at Sub Pop’s LameFest UK showcase in London, setting the stage for their looming leap in popularity.
Bruce describes the book as “a Nirvana story with a joyful ending.” He did an excellent job photographing the tour along with Steve Double who took black-and-white photos. We were lucky enough to get some of the photos from the book which you can see below:
