At Carnegie hall on September 28th, 1972 David Bowie played his first ever New York City concert. At the time Bowie was nothing near the phenomenon he became, yet many notables attended including Andy Warhol, The New York Dolls, Todd Rundgren and Truman Capote. From a review of the show by Ron Ross:
Even Andy (Warhol) couldn’t get a third ticket; David Bowie’s first concert in New York at Carnegie Hall (September 28) was the toughest ticket in town, in the Event class with Elvis and the Stones. From hard rocking kids to executives that had yet to be convinced of their own hype, the Apple’s boogaloo dudes sat amazed while Bowie proved once and for all that his act, his songs, his style were all one needed to know about the Face of 1972, whose photos most of us know so much better than his music.
