One of my absolute favorite blogs is Popspots by Bob Egan. Bob locates the physical locations where famous rock photos (Like the Beastie Boys’ album Paul’s Boutique pictured above) were taken and does a great job describing his process. Probably the most fascinating result is the images he creates by superimposing the album cover over his photo of what the location looks like today. Here are some photos from the Popspots he will feature on the site soon:
The New York Dolls – The New York Dolls – 1973 – St. Marks and 2nd
The Rolling Stones – Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the Shadow – 1966 – 124 East 24th st.
Peter, Paul & Mary – Album 1700 – 1967 – 70 Bedford st.
Sonic Youth – Daydream Nation (DGC insert) – 1988 – Crosby and Howard st.
Led Zeppelin – Physical Grafitti – 1975 – 96-98 St. Marks Place
